Will Toyota Launch Fifth-Generation Supra?

It has been ten years since the very last Toyota Supra rolled off an assembly line. What was once a popular sports car, Toyota decided to cease production. We have, however, heard rumors that the Japanese automaker could be in the process of creating a fifth-generation model. A few prototypes and concepts have been released at various auto shows over the past few years, but nothing further. The closest concept to make it to the production line was back in 2008. The Toyota FT-HS (Future Toyota-Hybrid Sport) nearly made it, but fell a bit short. While this vehicle certainly had a lot of hype, we expect the fifth generation Supra to gain momentum as time moves forward.

Following the release of the LFA from their luxury arm and FR-S from their youth brand, it appears that Toyota is heading in the right direction. A number of reports have come out stating that Toyota might be ready to take the next step in the creation of an all-new Supra.

There have been a significant number of updates since the last prototype was released. First of all, the Supra will be equipped with an all-new 3.5-liter V6 engine, which cranks out 400 horsepower. It's paired with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), true to the Future Toyota-Hybrid Sport concept. The chassis is expected to borrow heavily from the GRMN (Gazoo Racing Meister of Nurburgring) MRS prototype..

We could see the fifth generation Toyota Supra come out around 2015, with a price tag just under $60,000. With so much time between now and the expected release date, we all know how things can change.
